Gift Cards
Custom designed, credit-card style, plastic cards are used in place of a merchant's paper gift certificates. Customers purchase gift cards in any dollar amount using cash, check or credit card. The amount of the "gift" value is loaded and stored by swiping the card’s magnetic strip through a point of sale terminal. The balance of the card declines as the card is used but may be reloaded at any time.
Loyalty Cards
Custom designed, credit-card style, plastic cards used to track customer purchases for the purpose of administering a customer loyalty program. Tracking may include the number of visits, amount of purchase, or other measurable concepts to which points are awarded that many be redeemed according to the terms of the merchant's program.
Stored Value
Also known as prepaid cards, value cards, or cash cards, stored value cards have the same functionality as a gift card, but the purchaser generally uses the card personally instead of the focus being a gift.
